Baltimore, Md.—UMBC got a solid performance from hurler Matt Chanin in a 12-2 win against NJIT. The Retrievers move to 3-7 on the year.

UMBC got the scoring starting with a Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) single to lead off the second inning. Brady Zinda (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) followed up later with a groundout that plated Naumann. NJIT would answer back the next half inning with a home run to tie the score.

Then the UMBC bats would awaken, scoring seven runs in the next three innings. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) would hit an RBI double to lead the charge. Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) followed that up the next inning with a sac fly to give the Retrievers a 3-1 lead.

Naumann continued his hot game with a three-run home run to left center to give UMBC a 6-1 lead. Carroll followed up with another sac fly to put the game away for good.

The Retrievers would score four more in the latter innings, capped by a two run eighth inning. The Retrievers would win the game 12-1, putting up 19 hits.

Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) pitched a masterful game on the mound in a win. Chanin went seven strong giving up just seven hits, while striking out ten.

Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./TC Williams) went 3-5 on the day, knocking in two runs. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) also went 3-5 on the day, scoring two runs while driving in one.

UMBC is back in action tomorrow, March 18 at Towson. First pitch with the Tigers is set for 3:30 p.m.
