Louisville, Ky.—UMBC cross country senior Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) concluded his stellar career with the Retrievers by finishing 27th at the NCAA Championships on Saturday. The Frederick native added to a long list of accomplishments during his time in Baltimore by becoming the first UMBC cross country runner to be an All-American.
Omar completed the 10k course in a time of 30:16, besting his time of 30:47 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals a week ago. His time on Saturday is the best in school history, breaking his own mark from back in 2013.
The Frederick native adds to his list of accomplishments, as Omar was the first Retriever to win an individual championship in the America East. He finished in third place last week at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, and has been an All-Conference selection three times in his career.
