BALTIMORE- Despite a game-high 21 points from sophomore forward Chase Plummer (Plainfield, N.J.), host UMBC could not recover from a horrid shooting first half and fell to Boston University, 73-52, in the final home contest of the 2011-12 campaign.

Plummer has now scored 421 points this season, the second-most ever for a sophomore in UMBC's 26-year NCAA Division I history. He also became the fifth player in that span to record 400 points and 200 rebounds in a season.

But Plummer's did most of his damage from the free throw line in the first half, hitting six of eight attempts, as he misfired on five of seven field goal attempts. Junior guard Brian Neller (Red Bank, N.J.) was the only other Retriever to hit from the floor in the first half, as he converted three field goals. The Retrievers hit only 5-of-28 shots (17.9%) as the Terriers steadily built a 36-20 halftime edge.

Neller's third and final trey of the night got the Retrievers to within 41-30 with 17:35 remaining. But that was as close as UMBC would get. After Plummer's jumper whittled the deficit to 46-34 with 13:21 to play, the Terriers went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to take a prohibitive 55-34 advantage with 10:15 remaining.

Plummer earned America East Player of the Game honors for the ninth time this season, while Boston senior guard Darryl Partin led four Terriers in double figures with 17 points and earned the honor for the visitors.

UMBC (4-24, 3-12 America East) shot a season-low 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the field, while the Terriers (15-15, 11-4) snapped a two-game slide and hit 26 of 56 attempts (46.4%).

Neller was the only other Retriever in double figures with 13 points.

The game marked the final home appearance for UMBC's lone senior, post Jake Wasco. Wasco has started the last 21 games of the season and has scored 123 points this year after amassing 84 in his first three seasons.

The Retrievers complete the regular season at Vermont on Saturday, Feb. 25.
