VESTAL, N.Y.—The UMBC baseball team had
nine hits, but fell to Binghamton, 8-2, Sunday afternoon. With the
loss, the Retrievers fell to 7-33 (0-16 America East), while the
Bearcats improved to 20-20 (12-4 AE).
Senior captains Rich Conlon (Vienna,
Va./James Madison) and Rick
Phillips (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) each had
two hits and Phillips and freshman Kevin
Kean (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) had back-to-back
RBI in the sixth, but the Bearcats struck for eight in the first
four innings.
Senior starter Austin
Drewyer (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) took the loss
to fall to 2-8 on the year, allowing five earned runs in four
innings of work. Freshman reliever Jon
Cohn (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) only allowed
two hits in four innings pitched.
Binghamton's Peter Bregartner hit two home runs and drove
in five runs to lead the Bearcats. Jay Lynch (5-4) allowed two
unearned runs in seven innings of work to earn the win.
The Retrievers return to action Tuesday night when they host
Towson at 6 p.m.
