Baseball Defeats Georgetown, 4-3, for Third Straight Mid-Week Win

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team used a three-run first inning to propel them to a 4-3 win over Georgetown at Baseball Factory Field Wednesday evening. The Retrievers (7-30) are now 3-0 at home during mid-week games, while the Hoyas fell to 20-27 on the season.

In the bottom of the first, freshman Rob McCabe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's) led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout by senior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and came home on an RBI single by junior Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter's Prep). Junior Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) followed with a single and redshirt freshman D.J. Ream (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) drove him and Klukowicz home on a two-run double to left center.

Klukowicz drove home McCabe with an RBI single to center to add an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh.

UMBC freshman starter Jon Cohn (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) pitched three innings, allowing two runs, while junior Josh Dick (Winchester, Va./James Wood) (1-0) allowed just two hits in four innings of relief to earn the win. Sophomore Sam Bashioum (Fayette City, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) pitched the final inning, allowing one run, to earn his first save.

Hoya starter Alex Baker (3-4) allowed three runs in an inning of work in the loss.

The Retrievers return to action this weekend when they travel to Binghamton for a three-game America East series.
