Women's Tennis Bows To Binghamton in America East Semis

New Haven, Conn. – The UMBC women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to Binghamton in the semifinal round of the America East Championships.

 

The Bearcats took the doubles point, winning tight matches at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions.

 

UMBC was competing favorably at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions, as freshman No. 6 Josefin Stange-Jonsson (Vasteras, Sweden) led her opponent, 6-4, 5-4 and No. 5 senior Emily Mannix (Hillsborough, N.J.) was on the verge of evening her match as she stood at  7-5, 1-5.

 

But Retriever freshman No. 1 Kim Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) dropped a first-set tie-breaker and fell, 7-6 (3), 6-0 and the Bearcats also captured matches at the Nos. 3 and 4 slots to end the match.

 

UMBC completed the season with a mark of 10-9.
