BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the eight to come from behind and defeat George Washington, 6-3, at Baseball Factory Field Wednesday evening. With the win, the Retrievers improved to 5-23, while the Colonials fell to 10-27.
Down 3-2 in the eighth, junior Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) singled and moved to third on an error by GW. After a pitching change, senior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) walked. UMBC then had three straight RBI singles by junior Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep), sophomore Jason Allinder (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill/Chesapeake CC) and freshman Bryan Perlmutter (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley). Redshirt freshman D.J. Ream (Columbia, Md./Hempfield) concluded the inning with a single up the middle that scored Perlmutter.
The Retrievers received three good outings from junior starter Luke DiBlasi (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington), freshman Jon Cohn (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore Sam Bashioum (Fayette City, Pa./Belle Vernon Area), with each going three innings. Cohn and Bashioum (1-1) combined for the last six innings, allowing just one hit.
GW's Chris Keiper (1-2) gave up the final three runs in the eighth to take the loss.
The Retrievers return to America East action this weekend when they host Stony Brook in a three-game series Friday and Saturday. Friday's action starts at 11 a.m.
