Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker at Georgetown, 3-2

WASHINGTON, D.C.--The UMBC volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-set match at Georgetown Tuesday night, 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 15-9. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 4-9 on the year, while the Hoyas improved to 10-6.

The Retrievers were led by sophomore Ali Loynachan (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/Sinclair), who hit .323 with 11 kills and only one error. Junior Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) tallied seven kills and a game-high four blocks, while freshman Hallie Carter (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) had a game-high 26 digs.

Senior Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) extended her double-double streak to six, recording 11 kills and 15 digs.

UMBC won the first two sets after holding the Hoyas to a .028 and .194 hitting percentages in the first and second, respectively. Georgetown tied the game after hitting .324 and .375 in the third and fourth. In the fifth, Georgetown hit seven kills to UMBC's one.

The Retrievers return to action next Tuesday night when they play at local rival Towson at 7 p.m.
