Retriever Baseball Falls to Stony Brook, 24-2

BALTIMORE - The UMBC baseball team fell to America East foe Stony Brook, 24-2, Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Factory Field.

Stony Brook (22-22, 11-6 AEC) scored seven runs in both the first and the fourth innings to propel them over the Retrievers (9-32, 4-13 AEC). Michael Stephan hit a home run and drove in four to lead the Seawolves.

Junior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) hit a RBI double and sophomore Curtis Schickner (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) followed with a RBI groundout to score fellow sophomore Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) to put the Retrievers on the board in the fourth.

Junior starter Marty Zawacki (Hebron, Md./James Bennett) took the loss, while SBU's Adam Brown (3-5) struck out six  and allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings of work to pick up the win.

James Campbell pitched the final four innings to earn his first save.

The Retrievers return to action Tuesday when they play host to local rival Towson at 6 p.m.
