Baseball Drops Heartbreaker at Georgetown, 4-3, Tuesday Afternoon

BETHESDA, Md. - The UMBC baseball team (4-16) led 3-0 with six outs to go, but host Georgetown (15-12) scored two each in the last two innings to win, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon in Bethesda, Md.

Sophomore Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) hit a two-run double down the left field line in the fifth inning and fellow sophomore Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) hit an RBI double to left in the top of the eighth to give the Retrievers a 3-0 lead.

The Hoyas used a two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth and scored two runs one unearned, in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Retrievers.

UMBC senior starter Kevin Clark (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield/Catonsville C.C.) pitched three innings of no-hit action, but junior Austin Drewyer (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, in an inning of work.

Georgetown's Cary Piligian (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the win.

The Retrievers open America East play on Saturday at Hartford with a doubleheader at noon.
