Box Score 2 FARMVILLE, Va. - The UMBC baseball team (4-15) dropped a pair of games to Longwood (13-12), 8-5 and 7-2, Friday afternoon in Farmville, Va.
In the first game, the Lancers used two, four-run innings to defeat the Retrievers, 8-5. Sophomores Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) and Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each had two hits to lead the Retrievers, while fellow sophomore Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) walked twice and scored a run.
Senior starter Andrew Germuth (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding/Mount St. Mary's) allowed four runs in three innings of work. Fellow senior Ed Bach (Columbia, Md./Atholton) (2-4) took the loss, giving up four runs in four innings of relief.
Kyler Morgan (3-0) earned the win for the Lancers, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. Mark Montgomery received his third save after pitching a scoreless final two innings.
In the second game, the Retrievers jumped out to a 2-1, but the Lancers used a four-run fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to win 7-2.
UMBC earned their runs on freshman Aaron Brill (Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) and Klukowicz RBI singles in the second and third innings, respectively.
Sophomore starter Sean Swetnam (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/George Mason) (0-2) pitched three innings, allowing four earned runs, while Longwood starter Lance Harting (4-0) pitched a complete game, striking out three.
Phil Cerreto led the Lancers with five hits, four runs scored and three runs batted in through the two games Friday.
The Retrievers return to action Tuesday night when they play at Georgetown at 3 p.m.
