Box Score Durham, N.H.—The UMBC men's soccer team (5-3-2, 0-0-2
America East) extended its unbeaten streak to a season-high three
games, as they battled host New Hampshire (5-2-3, 0-1-1) to a 0-0
scoreless draw in two overtime periods to conclude UNH's Homecoming
festivities.
In 2003, the Retrievers opened their first season of America
East play with back-to-back draws en route to a strong 5-1-3
conference record.
Junior goalkeeper Dan
Louisignau (Wilmington, Del./Concord/U. Virginia) recorded
five saves to post his first shutout in a UMBC uniform. The match
was the Retrievers' first clean sheet since blanking Wofford, 2-0,
on Sept. 4.
UMBC came on strong in the final 20 minutes, outshooting the
hosts, 5-2, in the overtime sessions. UNH outshot UMBC,
12-9, for the game.
The Retrievers had several good chances in extra time. Freshman
forward Pete Caringi
III (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) had a header in the
98th minute which UNH netminder Colin O'Donnell got
a piece of and the ball hit the post. Earlier in the
stanza, Caringi also was the recipient of a through pass from
senior forward Levi
Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) and appeared to be
taken down in the box, but no foul was whistled.
Houapeu also had a semi break-away in the
105th minute and absorbed a lot of contact in the
box before his shot was saved by
O'Donnell.
The Retrievers head right back to the road in America East play,
competing at Albany on Wednesday afternoon.
