UMBC Baseball Falls to George Mason, 12-4

BALTIMORE--Freshman Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) went 4-for-5 a day after being named America East Rookie of the Week, but the UMBC baseball team fell to George Mason, 12-4. With the loss, the Retrievers drop to 9-28 on the season.
 
The Patriots opened the scoring in the third on an error followed by a Ryan Soares three-run shot that hit the top of the left-field fence and went over. George Mason would add one in the top of the sixth before UMBC answered with two on a two-run single by freshman Justin Lamborn (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnett Valley). George Mason tacked on three in the sixth to extend the lead to 10-4.
 
Sophomore starter Travis Pearson (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) (1-4) took the loss, allowing four hits in three innings of work.  George Mason starter Dan Gerjets struck out two in 3 and 1/3 innings, while Kevin Lingerman (1-0) struck out three in 1 and 2/3 innings of work.
 
Senior Dave Warrenfeltz (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) hit a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning and now has hit safely in six straight games.
