Annapolis, Md. - Despite a flurry of second half scoring opportunities, the UMBC men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to U. Mass (4-0-1) at the Anders Soccer Classic at the U.S. Naval Academy.
UMBC outshot U. Mass, 14-12, for the game and recorded 11 second half shots, but Minuteman netminder Zack Simmons posted six saves, including several of a spectacular variety to keep the Retrievers off the board.
U. Mass scored the lone goal of the game as Chris Brown bent in a free kick from just outside the box in the 48th minute of play. UMBC sophomore netminder Steve King recorded a pair of saves, but is still in search of his first shutout of the season.
Seniors Kevin Mezzadra (two goals on Saturday) and David Feazell earned all-tournament team honors for UMBC.
