Baltimore, MD - Reserve forward Paul Mihich scored with 14:21 to play to lift visiting Georgia Southern (1-0-1) to a 1-1 draw with host UMBC (1-0-1) in the Greene Turtle/adidas Kick Off.
The Eagles were declared the tournament champion as they outshot UMBC, 5-4, in post-match penalty kicks. In the consolation game, Towson (2-0-1) got a pair of goals from J.C. Cole and defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology (0-3), 5-1.
In the title game, UMBC junior midfielder Steve Goddard put the home team on the board at the 27:50 mark, as he converted linemate David Feazell's short cross from four yards out. But Georgia Southern sent the game to extra time as Mihich caught UMBC netminder Andy Marchica out of goal, and knocked a shot inside the left post from 21 yards out.
GSU netminder Adam Webb made two brilliant back-to-back saves midway through the first overtime, robbing Derek McElligott and Eric Mahon on the best threat of the extra 20 minutes.
