WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT BINGHAMTON, 61-48

Guard Rachel Laws scored 16 points to lead three Bearcats in double figures as host Binghamton (11-4, 6-1 AEC) defeated UMBC (0-16, 0-7) , 61-48, in Vestal, NY.

UMBC led, 12-8, after a three-pointer by Courtney Doughman with 12:57 left in the first half, but a 7-0 by the Bearcats gave them a 15-12 advantage. Retriever guard Maria Brown tied it with a trifecta, but BU scored the next seven points, and extended their lead to 34-25 at intermission.

The Retrievers were still within seven points at 53-46 with 3:19 remaining, but two free throws by Leala Wegwerth and a jumper by Laws increased the margin to 11 points and sealed the game for Binghamton.

Brown scored 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the floor. Anastasia Goncharova tallied 11 points, while forward Tyecia Powell added 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in 24 minutes of action.

UMBC hit 45% (18 of 40) from the floor, but turned the ball over 20 times, and allowed 17 BU offensive caroms.
