MEN'S SOCCER BATTLES FDU TO 1-1 DRAW

Baltimore, MD-Each team's leading scorer, UMBC's Derek McElligott and FDU's Nadav Gottesman, scored in a 3:15 minute span in the second half as the host Retrievers (3-4-2, 0-0-1) battled the visiting Knights to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes at UMBC Soccer Stadium.

UMBC appeared to be in control after FDU's Marc-Elie Andre received a red card for a dangerous tackle just 15 minutes into the game. The Retrievers did not cash in until the 56:07 mark, when McElligott scored his fifth goal of the season, heading in a Matt McGowan free kick from close range.

But the NEC defending champion Knights struck right back, as Gottesman redirected a Dirceu Hurtado corner kick at the far left post at 59:22. The Retrievers controlled the tempo, but got very few good scoring opportunities. McElligott had the best chance with two minutes to play in regulation, but his shot from ten yards out after a centering pass was saved by FDU netminder Andrew Nucifora.

Nucifora made 3 saves in the game, while UMBC's Brian Rowland totalled four. The Retrievers have already set a school Division I record by playing in six overtime games (1-3-2) to date. UMBC remains winless against FDU in NEC competition, with a 1-5-2 record. The Knights are the lone NEC team that UMBC has a losing record against
