Track & Field Heads to NYC for Dr. Sander Scorcher

The UMBC Track & Field team will continue its indoor season this weekend (Friday-Saturday) in New York City at the Dr. Sander Scorcher hosted by Columbia. 

 Marie Abongwa and Enazajah Young continued the stellar starts to their indoor seasons as they took home America East Weekly Awards, the Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Abongwa was named the Field Performer of the Week after she took silver and set the school record in the weight throw (18.35) at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday.

Young won America East Rookie of the Week for the third time in three chances as she set the UMBC 60m hurdles record for the third straight competition as she took gold in a time of 8.35. The time is 40th in NCAA (based on TFRRS) and top time in conference by .45 seconds.

Katie Schwaner placed fifth and broke the UMBC 1000m record (2:50.25), Micah Haskins earned the bronze in the 3000m in 10:23.74, while Anna Creel (39.68) and Madisyn Bobb (39.93) went 5-6 in the 300m.

The 4x4 relay team of Lily Bandy, Creel, Dalyce Schmidt and Leanne McDonald won its heat and took bronze in a time of 3:47.49.

Gabby Millwood placed fifth in the long jump (5.50), while Emily Mitroka finished fifth in the 800m (2:19.78).

Weston Carr was named the America East Track Performer of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. Carr finished second in 800m (1:51.49) at the Nittany Lions Challenge. The time was 33rd in the NCAA (based on TFRRS) and the top time in the conference by more than two seconds.

Ojigwe Olua earned a silver and set a personal best and moved into second all-time at UMBC with a 7.90 time in the 60m hurdles. Alim Raji also took silver as he finished the 300m in 34.29.
Jacob Martin earned bronze in the 400m in 49.13, and classmate Rhema Nkwocha finished fifth in 49.34.

In the 1000mm Justin Banks won his heat and took ninth overall in 2:24.48, while Sofiane Compaorg finished right behind him in 2:25.33

The 4x4 relay team of Nkwocha, Justin FeblesKemarley Hibbert and Martin finished fourth in a time of 3:16.71.

In the field events, Toren Burr took eighth in the weight throw (17.09).
