Dawg Bytes
  • UMBC is currently second in the America East with a .583 winning percentage.
  • The Dawgs are also second on the circuit with eight goals this season.
  • The Retrievers are tied for first in goals allowed (3).
  • Kalli Williams leads the circuit in saves percentage (.929) and goals against average (.333).
  • Junior midfielder Payton Schenning is tied for third in the league in points per game (1.00).
  • UMBC's 14 points in the win against Iona are the most by any conference team in 2025.
  • Junior forward Grace Dunbar scored her first career goal with 13:12 remaining in the match, leading the UMBC women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Longwood Lancers in front of a record crowd of 1,708 fans at Retriever Soccer Park last Thursday evening.
  • Dunbar's goal was an impressive strike from 25 yards out, hitting just inches below the crossbar. Longwood goalkeeper Sara Curtis made a leaping attempt to stop the powerful shot, but the ball whistled just beyond her fingertips. The play was set up by sophomore midfielder Kristiana Kolega, who delivered a pass from the fifty-yard line to junior midfielder Emily Hiney. Hiney then found Dunbar, who was positioned in the center of the field. Both Kolega and Hiney earned their first assists of the season.
  • Amara Codd recorded three saves while playing the entire second half, earning her first win of the season. Graduate student Kalli Williams also performed well, making a game-high five saves in the first half.
  • UMBC edged by the Delaware Blue Hens, 1-0, in a non-conference battle on Sunday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.
  • The Blue Hens (5-0-1) scored the only goal of the contest with 26:54 remaining in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Maggie Holloway sent a through ball from the midfield for classmate Olivia Bley. Bley made a great run into the box along the left side and fired a shot on goal that a Retriever defender deflected. Freshman midfielder Lilli Lubic was able to pounce on the loose ball and tapped in a shot that hit off the inside of the near post and trickled over the line.
  • The Retrievers had an excellent opportunity to take the lead just 2:25 into the match as sophomore defender Gabby Larson made a run down the right flank after receiving a terrific ball from junior midfielder Payton Schenning. Larson fired a shot from seven yards out, but Delaware goalkeeper Sophia Hall was able to get a piece of the blast. The ball bounced in front of the net, but the hosts did not have anyone in position to pick up the loose change.
About Delaware
  • In their last time out, the Tigers dropped a road match to Saint Joseph's 3-2. Kale'a Perry converted a penalty kick, remaining the only player in the Coastal Athletic Association to record a point in every game so far this season. The grad student who was Third Team All-CAA last season, has two goals and three assists this season, already on level with her total last season.
  • Emma Kirkpatrick currently leads the conference in assists per game at one.
  • While head coach Katherine Vettori will have to replace all-league performers Riley Melendez, Maja Hansson and Demi Pierre, six starters return from the 2024 squad that went undefeated during the month of October – finishing that stretch with four wins and three ties, including three of the top four point producers: Sophie Thibeault (7 goals, 2 assists), Malin Bernt Schöps (4g, 1a) and Kale'a Perry (2g, 3a). Three other starters, midfielder Emma Levin and defenders Brooke Birrell and Sydney Lindeman, also return.
  • Towson was picked to finish fourth in the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) North Division in the preseason coaches' poll – behind Stony Brook, Monmouth and Hofstra and ahead of Northeastern and Drexel. Starting this season, CAA women's soccer has been separated into two divisions, North and South. Each team will play all teams in its division plus four matches against the other division. The top three teams in each division will qualify for the 2025 CAA Championship.
Inside The Series
  • The two sides are familiar foes, having played every year since 2017.
  • The Tigers own the series by a record of 8-0-3, winning the last three games.
  • The last game at Tiger Field between the two sides ended 8-1 in favor of Towson.
