Former UMBC men's soccer greats, Dave Andrzejewski (pictured left with former UMBC head coach Ed Veit) and Andrew Bulls (pictured right), were recently inducted into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame. The Retrievers now boast 17 Hall of Famers in the prestigious organization.
Andrzejewski (1974-77) was the first UMBC soccer All American, earning honorable mention honors in 1977. He was named the school's Outstanding Male Athlete in 1978 and led the squad to a 37-15-8 record in his career. He earned Mason-Dixon honors in all four years in soccer from his defensive position and was All Mason-Dixon in lacrosse as a senior.
"The induction into the Maryland Soccer Legends Hall of Fame was a wonderful honor," Andrzejewski said. "I'm deeply grateful and proud to have shared this moment with my wife Cassie of 44 years, sons DJ and Craig, Coach Veit, and many UMBC teammates. I was fortunate to play soccer for a highly successful program with outstanding teammates and a coach who mentored all of us. The university provided me with an invaluable education and motivated me to pursue my master's degree and CPA. Playing soccer and lacrosse at UMBC was a special time in my life. Forever a Retriever!
Andrew Bulls (2008-11) appeared in 75 matches at UMBC, tallying 33 goals and is the school's all-time assists leader, with 30. In 2010 he was third in the nation in assists, with 15, setting an all-time record in the America East Conference. Bulls is also a two-time All-America East First Team honoree (2009, 2010). He was selected by the Columbus Crew in the MLS Supplemental Draft in 2011.
"I'm just glad to be part of such great company at the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame," Bulls stated. "It was an incredible experience playing for UMBC—I had the chance to learn from some of the best coaches in Maryland's history, share the field with my brother for the first time, and meet my wife. UMBC shaped my life in ways I'll always be grateful for."
