Charlottesville, Va. - The UMBC women's outdoor track & field squad sent a small contingent of Retrievers to the Virginia Challenge this past weekend.
Freshman Katie Schwaner recorded a personal-best time in the 800 meters at 2:16.57, the 11th-best time in the America East Conference this spring.
Senior thrower Marie Abongwa competed in the hammer and shot put. She placed 19th in the hammer (50.17 meters, 164-7) and recorded an effort of 13.08 meters (42-11) in the shot put.
Sophomore Lexi Tepper turned in a time of 4:37.08 in the 1,500 meters.

Baltimore, Md. - The Retrievers sent a full squad to the 2025 Legacy Meet at Morgan State this past weekend.
Sophomore Genelle Stephens and junior Lyna Beraich returned with gold medal performances in their respective events. Stephens won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.37, and Beraich claimed the 1,500 meters in 4:42.05 (personal best). Beraich also placed second in the 5,000 meters (18:15.01), and Stephens placed sixth in the 200 meters (25.05).
Junior Shannel Sibblies had a terrific meet, taking third place in the 400 meters and fifth place in the 200 meters (24.99) with personal-best returns. Her 55.50 in the 400 meters is the third-best effort in the league this spring.
UMBC's 4 x 100 relay team came home with silver medals after crossing the line in 46.73. Sophomore Charliana Dacosta, Junior Leanne McDonald, senior Za'Kayza Parsons, and freshman Anna Creel comprised the foursome.
Parsons also finished seventh in the long jump (5.46 meters, 17-11.00), and Dacosta took fourth in the 100 meters (12.05). Senior Chia Nwankwo placed sixth in the shot put (12.83 meters, 42-01.25).
Freshman Morgan Sizer (4th, triple jump, 10.96 meters, 35-11.50), junior Lily Strelecki (2nd, 1,500 meters, 4:44.64), and sophomore Katelyn Deal (7th, 800 meters, 2:18.46) also recorded personal-best performances.
