Stephens Breaks Own School Mark in the 400-Meter Hurdles at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regionals

Jacksonville, Florida - UMBC sophomore Genelle Stephens broke her school record in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2025 NCAA Track & Field East Regional Championships on Thursday evening at the University of North Florida.

Stephens finished fifth in her heat with a time of 58.49 and just missed the cut for the quarterfinals on Saturday. Stephens placed 26th of 47 competitors as the top 12 finishers advanced to Eugene, Oregon. Madeline Abega from South Florida finished 24th with a time of 58.37.

Stephens capped a terrific season, which included winning her second straight America East Conference championship in the 400-meter hurdles this past spring.
