Harrisonburg, Va. - Sophomore Genelle Stephens took home a pair of medals to lead the UMBC women's outdoor track & field squad at the James Madison Invitational this weekend.
Stephens won the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:01.10, the second-fastest result in the America East Conference this season. She ranks fourth in the event in program history. Stephens also placed third in the 200 meters with a result of 24.39, the fifth-best time at UMBC.
Senior Za'Kayza Parsons turned in the second-fastest time in program history in the 100 meters as she crossed the tape in 11.58 (6th). She ranks fourth in the league this season. Sophomore Charliana Dacosta finished ninth in 12.05.
Senior Chia Nwankwo was the runner-up (13.11 meters, 43-00.25) in the shot put, while junior Marie Abongwa placed fourth (12.69 meters, 41-07.75).
Junior Lily Strelecki placed fourth (11:34.66) in the 3,000 steeplechase), the ninth-best time in program history.
Izzy Ostvig was among the top ten in a pair of field events. The sophomore took sixth in the long jump (5.41m, 17-09) with the ninth-best result in the league and a personal best. She also placed eighth in the high jump (1.53 meters, 5-00.25).
Junior Shannel Sibblies (400 meters, 57.76) and freshman Lydia Nelson (1500 meters, 4.46.74) placed seventh in their respective events.
