Women's Soccer Travels to High Point on Thursday Evening

UMBC (2-3) at High Point (2-4-1) | Thursday, Sept. 12, 7:00 p.m. | High Point, N.C. | Vert Stadium | Watch | Live Stats

DAWG BYTES
  • UMBC enters the game with two wins in their last three appearances.
  • Misa Kasparcova scored her first goal of the season, but visiting American made the most of their opportunities to down the UMBC Women's Soccer team, 3-1, last Thursday night at Retriever Soccer Park.
  • In a wide-open affair in which both teams had eight shots on goal and 21 shots, all four goals occurred in the first 38:05 of the contest.
  • The Eagles goal 6:30 in was matched just 1:42 later by Kasparcova's wonder strike from 25 yards out. A loose ball came rolling out of the box after a UMBC corner, Kasparcova chased it down from inside the box and spun and chipped it in one motion, high-right upper 90 off the crossbar, to tie it.
  • American responded three minutes later, and UMBC had a chance to tie in the 36th minute, but a penalty kick was saved, and the Eagles added the final tally exactly two minutes later off a deflection after a corner.
  • Freshman midfielder Kristiana Kolega received America East Rookie of the Week honors last week after she tallied her first career point at Howard. Kolega assisted on Abby Joseph's goal in the 41st minute.
  • UMBC distributed four assists against Howard, good for second most in the America East this season.
  • Payton Schenning, Natasha Munro, Cheyenne Payne, and Kolega all recorded their first assists of the season against the Bison.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
  • Four different players scored to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 shutout victory over the University of West Georgia last Thursday night at Vert Stadium.
  • Lindsey DeHaven scored her team-leading second goal, while Alex Murphy and Courtney Andruczk netted their first this season and Sabba Haghgoo scored her first collegiate goal. Megan Garmey registered her career-first, multi-assist game as she leads the Panthers with three assists; meanwhile, Kasey Resker dished out her first collegiate assist to help HPU win its first on the year.
  •  Aubrey McKessy was named the Big South Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Against UNCW, the graduate keeper saved six shots and none more important than the penalty kick save in the 78th minute as she dove left and swatted away the shot to keep the 2-2 tie intact.
 SERIES HISTORY
  • In their first meeting last season, UMBC dropped a 1-0 decision in a game that was delayed forty minutes due to lightning in the area.
  •  The visitors threatened the entire game and finally broke through on a penalty kick in the 60th minute for the lone score of the evening.
  •  Junior forward Lilly Neubauer was taken down in the box by Retriever sophomore back Ava Schreiber to set up the game-winner.  Senior midfielder Fain Buete then calmly stepped up to the line and beat UMBC junior goalkeeper Abbey Cowles with a low shot into the left-corner of the net.
  • Cowles kept the Retrievers in the game all night as she tied her season-high (Drexel) with nine saves, including a diving stop to thwart graduate forward Tessa Carlin with 17:10 left in the opening half.
UP NEXT
  • The Dawgs will host Longwood on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
