Tysons, Va. --
Justin Taylor homered and reached base five times, while
Matt Ryan and
Matthew Best also homered, but it wasn't enough as the UMBC Baseball team dropped an 11-6 decision at Georgretown on Tuesday night.
Taylor hit a solo shot in the fifth, walked four times and scored three runs in the contest. Best's second inning home run tied the game at one, before Ryan's two-run blast in the third gave UMBC a brief 3-1 lead.
The Hoyas would plate three in the bottom half of the inning to re-take the lead. Taylor's homer tied the game in the fifth, but the hosts hit a three-run homer of their own to take a 7-4 lead.Â
Kyle Eddington's RBI single in the sixth cut the deficit to 7-5, and
Danny Wyatt had an RBI ground out in the seventh to make it a one run game, but that would be as close as the Retrievers would get.
Luke Trythall added a hit and a walk for UMBC in defeat.
The Retrievers continue their five-game road trip at Delaware State on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
