Baseball Concludes Regular Season by Hosting Regular Season Champion Bryant for Senior Weekend

The UMBC Baseball team will celebrate its seniors and wrap the regular season when it hosts regular season champion Bryant for a three game series beginning on Thursday night.

Probable Starters:

Thursday (6 p.m.): Luke Johnson (4-4, 2.99 ERA) vs. Austin Wainer (6-1, 3.22 ERA)
Friday (2 p.m. / 7 inning): Jayden Shertel  (2-5, 3.75 ERA) vs. Nelson Berkwich (5-1, 2.75 ERA)
Friday (Game 2 / 9 inning): Eddie Sargent  (1-0, 4.33 ERA)  vs. TBA

On Monday, Johnson was named the America East Pitcher of the Week after he went 6.2 innings with just two hits allowed, eight strikeouts and one earned run in a win against Binghamton on Friday.

Last time out,  Luke Trythall homered and Eddie Sargent allowed just two runs in 6.2 innings of work, but host Binghamton hit a walk-off two run homer in the bottom of the 13th to take the series finale, 5-3, over UMBC on Sunday afternoon.

Matt Ryan doubled home Justin Taylor in the first, and Trythall hit a two-run blast in the second to make it 3-0, but UMBC would be unable to plate another run the rest of the way. Binghamton scored twice in the seventh and then added an unearned run in the eighth to send the game to extras.

Anthony Swenda, Matthew Best and Danny Wyatt each had two-hit games for the Retrievers, who fell to 23-22, and 12-9 in the America East.

Scouting Bryant:
  • Brandyn Durand delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth as the Bryant baseball team defeated Stonehill, 10-9, on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon at Conaty Park.
  • With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 32-17 overall and close the year 19-4 at Conaty Park.
  • Durand finished with three hits and three RBI, while Daniel Baruch hit a two-run home run and drove in four runs to pace the Black and Gold.
  • Chris Einemann added three hits and scored the game-winning run.
