Vestal, N.Y. --
Anthony Swenda homered for the third straight game, but host Binghamton held off a late UMBC rally to defeat the Dawgs, 11-6, on Saturday afternoon.
Swenda's solo homer gave UMBC a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Bearcats would score the next eight runs. The Retrievers would cut the deficit to 8-5 in the eighth, but the hosts put the game away with three in the bottom of the inning.
Dawson Baracani,
Matthew Best and
Danny Wyatt each joined Swenda with two-hit games. Best had a two-run double in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-3, and a
Justin Taylor two run-homer made it 8-5. The Dawgs got a run back in the ninth on a
Derek Paris sacrifice fly that scored Wyatt.
Matt Ryan had the other hit for the visitors, and
Matt Cunningham came on in relief in the eighth and struck out both batters he faced.Â
The final game of the series will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.
