Tregoning Strikes for Career High 7 Goals

BALTIMORE – UMBC junior attackman Brian Tregoning scored a career-high seven goals, however, the UAlbany Great Danes notched the game-winner with five ticks left to pull out a 14-13, America East victory over the Retrievers on Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium. UMBC drops to 3-4 (2-1 America East) while the visitors improve to 4-5 (3-0 AE).

Tregoning, who produced eight points for the second straight week, scored three of his seven markers in the fourth quarter to pace the offense. Senior linemate Mike Doughty (six ground balls) tallied a pair of goals and distributed a game-high five assists to match his career-high. Senior midfielder Zach Dudley won 17-of-30 face-offs and recorded ten ground balls. Senior Jayson Tingue made nine saves in goal.

How It Happened
The visitors got on the board first as Parker Emmett scored just 1:53 into the contest off a feed from Conner Fingar.
The hosts responded with two straight goals as Doughty and Tregoning gave the Retrievers their first advantage at the 9:19 mark.
UAlbany answered with two straight goals but junior attacker Jordan Galloway took a feed from Doughty to even the score, 3-3, on an extra man opportunity with 1:45 remaining in the opening frame.
Silas Richmond scored at the buzzer to give the Great Danes a 4-3 advantage heading into the second quarter.
Tregoning brought UMBC even, 4-4, after taking a feed from senior midfielder Dane Hall just thirty-five seconds into the frame but the visitors erupted for four consecutive goals to claim an 8-4 lead with 10:45 left in the half. Ryan Doherty (4 goals) scored the final two goals of the stretch.
UMBC, however, got right back into the contest as they rattled off the next three goals. Tregoning ignited the burst with an unassisted marker and then set Connor Chick up for his second goal of the season. Doughty would find Tregoning to make it 8-7 with six seconds left in the half.
Jake Piseno would beat the horn again for the visitors, converting a laser from long range to spot the visitors a 9-7 edge at the break.
Hall opened the third quarter scoring with a man up tally at the 12:20 mark to cut the lead to 9-8 but Doherty scored again for the Great Danes to give UAlbany a 10-8 edge.
The visitors led 11-9 at the end of the third quarter as the teams continued to trade goals.
Trailing 12-10 with 8:35 left, the Retrievers surged ahead after they scored three straight times to build a 13-12 advantage. Tregoning opened the run with two consecutive goals to even the score with 4:53 left. Senior attackman Mateo Brown completed the stretch with an unassisted tally at the 2:56 mark.
