Men's Lacrosse Looks for Second Straight Victory After Opening America East Slate With OT Win Last Saturday

RETRIEVER RECAP
  • SO midfielder Nick Gutierrez capped a late rally, scoring with 12 seconds in overtime as the Retrievers defeated defending America East champion Bryant, 13-12, on the leagues opening weekend.
  • Junior midfielder Jordan Galloway scored a career high five goals, including the game-tying goal with 3:29 remaining.
  • Gutierrez, senior attacker Brian Tregoning and senior midfielder Dane Hall scored two goals each for UMBC, while senior attackman Mike Doughty added three assists.
Senior Jayson Tingue made seven of his 14 saves in the second quarter to keep UMBC within striking distance.
OTHER NOTES
  • Senior attackman Mike Doughty has produced multiple-assist games in four of UMBC's first five outings and is ranked 10th nationally and first in the AE with 3.0 assists per game. He averages more than one assist per game (52a/37gp) in his Retriever career. He just hit the 80-point mark (37-52-89) and became UMBC's first player to reach 50 helpers since Max Maxwell (66 career assists) achieved the mark in 2016. Doughty is currently third in the league with 3.60 points per game.
  • Doughty has assists in 21 of his last 23 games played. He (3-15-18) leads the Retrievers in scoring, while Galloway (13-3-16) leads the squad in goals and is 14th in the country in shot percentage (.481). Senior attackman Brian Tregoning (11-3-14) is right behind the duo.
  • Senior face-off specialist Zach Dudley won eight face-offs versus Richmond and became the sixth Retriever to reach the 300-win plateau at 313 draws won. He's also seventh on the circuit with 4.60 ground balls per game.
  • Tingue is second in the AE in goals against average (11.35).
  • UMBC is second in the NCAA with a .907 clearing percentage.
  • UMBC is now 4-7 in its last 11 America East Conference openers and broke a two-game losing streak with the victory over Bryant last Saturday. The Dawgs will look to make it 2-0 to start conference play for first time since 2017 when they opened 3-0.
A LOOK AT THE WARRIORS

  • Grad student Jack Rooney (Furman) has a team-high 26 points (10-16) on the season.
  • Kolbe (16-2-18) is tied for second on the squad in scoring with Trace Hogan (8-10-18).
