Baseball Run-Rules Host Maryland Eastern Shore

Salisbury, Md. -- The UMBC Baseball team continued its offensive surge as it defeated host Maryland Eastern Shore via run-rule, 10-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Retrievers pounded out 15 hits, with two homers, two doubles and stole five bases in just seven at-bats.

Two-way player Jayden Shertel, just hours after being named the America East Pitcher of the Week, went 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Anthony Swenda had three RBI, while Luke Trythall drove in a pair.

Logan Wiley started and went three scoreless innings to pick up the win. Shane Murphy, Rob Dorn, Sam Daniels and Nick Remy all made scoreless appearances in relief

How it Happened:
  • Matt Ryan doubled with two outs and scored on a Trythall single to put the Dawgs up 1-0.
  • Dawson Baracani hit a solo homer to leadoff the second and make it 2-0
  • Later in the second, Shertel and Kyle Eddington each singled and both scored on a homer from Swenda
  • In the third, Shertel singled with two outs, stole second and scored on a Danny Wyatt single to make it 6-0
  • It remained 6-0 until the sixth when Swenda singled with one out and Ryan doubled two put two in scoring position
  • Trythall then scored Swenda on an RBI. groundout to make it 7-0
  • In the top of the seventh, the Retrievers loaded the bases, Justin Taylor singled and the left fielder misplayed the ball allowing all three runners to score and make it 10-0
  • The Hawks went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to end the game via run-rule
The Retrievers host Delaware State at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Alumni Field.
