Men's Soccer Hosts UMass Lowell on Saturday Evening

  • The Retrievers opened the America East Conference season with a convincing 2-0 win against the Binghamton Bearcats last Saturday evening at rainy Bearcats Sports Complex. It was the Retriever's first road win of the season.
  • Junior Ricky Schissler and senior Karl Quist-Therson scored second half goals for their first career tallies. Both markers came just moments after free kicks into the box by senior defender Ty Stroud.
  • The Retrievers created most of the scoring opportunities in the contest as they outshot the Bearcats by a 16-8 margin, including a 10-3 edge in shots on target. The Retrievers, who lead the circuit in corner kicks, added seven more to their ledger this evening. Binghamton (6-3-1, 0-1-0) entered the match with a five-game unbeaten streak.
  • UMBC dropped a 5-0 decision against Drexel on Tuesday evening at UMBC Stadium.
  • Graduate student defender Hans Nesheim is fourth in the country with seven assists on the season.
  • The Retrievers are second in the league in scoring (1.80 goals per game).
  • Emigdio Tormo Lopez leads the conference with 4.90 saves per game.
 
ABOUT THE RIVER HAWKS
  • Senior Liam Ireland scored his first goal of the season, as the UMass Lowell men's soccer team (6-1-3, 1-0 AE) took down the UAlbany Great Danes, 2-0, to open conference play last Saturday night.
  • Guillermo Frances Poquet and Oliver Holmstrom lead the squad with three goals. Holmstrom's three tallies have all been game-winners.
  • JR Gawel is second in the league with 4.33 saves per game.
 
 INSIDE THE SERIES
  • UMBC is 6-4 all-time against the River Hawks.
  • The Retrievers have taken the last two contests, including a 2-1 decision last season in Lowell. Alex Wroblewski and Taylor Calheira scored late second-goals to provide the Dawgs with the victory.
