Retrievers seeking third straight victory against the Black Bears in Orono

- UMBC senior forward Meghan McKye notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season, but the host Retrievers were edged by the NJIT Highlanders, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Retriever Soccer Park.
- McKye took advantage of an errant pass deep in the visitors' territory with just over 22 minutes remaining in the first half to spot the hosts a 1-0 advantage. McKye collected the miscue and converted on an open net opportunity as Highlanders' goalkeeper Samantha Constantine was caught out of position on the play.
- NJIT tied the game late in the first half and then scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute.
- The Retrievers knocked off Iona last Thursday at Retriever Soccer Park. Natasha Munro and Cheyenne Payne scored second-half goals to provide the hosts with their third victory of the season.
 - McKye is 10th in the America East with .75 points per game (4 goals, 1 assist) thus far in 2023. Her four goals are tied for the third most in the league.
- Negrete is tied for 9th on the circuit with .231 assists per game. In addition, she's 10th in the conference with 0.85 shots on goal per game and is 16th in total shots (1.69 pg.).
- Sophomore midfielder Misa Kasparcova is 14th in the conference with 0.77 shots on goal per game.
 - Junior goalkeeper Abbey Cowles ranks 2nd in the America East with 5.55 saves per game.

ABOUT THE BLACK BEARS
- Maine is ranked #10 on Atlantic Region Rankings following an undefeated start of 6-0-3 to their season.
- Most recently, the Black Bears shutout UAlbany back on Sunday, 3-0.
- Abby Kraemer leads the Black Bears with nine goals and three assists through 10 games on the season. Her nine goals have her tied for 12th in the country. She was named the America East Player of the Week following a one-goal, one-assist performance against UAlbany, her second weekly award of the season.
- Kira Kutzinski is coming off her third shutout of the season, a six-save performance which earned her the America East Defensive Player of the Week award, her first in 2023.
- Maine's .850 win-tie-loss % is good for the 12th best in the NCAA.
- Maine leads the America East in scoring average per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES
-UMBC is 6-13-1 against the Black Bears and 2-8 on the road. The Dawgs have won two straight in Orono.
- The Retrievers had won three straight contests until Maine edged the Dawgs, 3-2, last season in Baltimore. UMBC led 2-0 after goals by McKye and Alyssa Palmucci but the visitors struck three times in the second half to pull out the victory. Brite Speck scored in the 80' to break the deadlock.
-UMBC defeated the Black Bears in Orono by a 2-1 count on Oct. 20, 2019 for their first ever win in Maine. The Retrievers scored a pair of second-half goals in a 47 second span to earn the win. - In 2021, Grace Harvey scored off an assist by current Retriever Izzy Binko in the 33' for the game-winner.
