Men's Track & Field Heads to Philadelphia for 128th Edition of Penn Relays

The meet is UMBC's final test before next weekend's America East Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The UMBC men's track and field program has one final tune-up in preparation for next weekend's America East Championships. The Retrievers will take part in the 128th edition of the Penn Relays inside venerable Franklin Field.

Last Meet Recap (Hopkins/Loyola Invitational):
 
  • Lamine Fofana set a new personal-low time in the 400 hurdles en route to winning the event, doing so in 56.46 seconds.
  • Liam Meginniss also reached the highest spot on the podium, earning "Top Dawg" status during the 800m with a PR of 1:54.07.
  • Will Sakowicz hit a new personal-best in the 3,000m steeplechase, dropping a 9:54.93 on his competitors, good enough to finish fifth.
  • Mulisa Reggasa was the final notable at this particular meet, matching Sakowicz's slot for his 800m run with fifth at 1:57.23.
 
Last Meet Recap (Morgan State Legacy):
 
  • The top two runners in the 400 hurdles both donned Black and Gold as Michael Arnold won the event (52.52 – PR) while Nicolas Alphonse snagged silver just 47/100ths of a second behind (52.99 – PR)
  • Donovan Young nearly jumped his way to a medal but came up just a bit shy, still boasting fourth place for the 13.82-meter triple jump.
 
Last Time At The Penn Relays (2022):
 
  • Two of the gold medalists from the 2022 4x100m relay team, Shavar Staats and Marquis Miller, make their way back to the City of Brotherly Love where the UMBC quartet would narrowly edge out Stony Brook for the crown at 41.22.
  • Another trio of Retrievers who claimed fourth during the 4x100m relays take another run at the event as Staats, Rodger Wright, and Jayo Adegboyo helped the group run a 42.02.
  • Ibra Khairat rounded out the top performers last season as he registered another fourth place slot with his coming during the triple jump (14.69m).
