Men's Track & Field to Compete at Towson Invitational

Michael Arnold and Toren Burr had excellent meets at Towson in 2022.

TOWSON, Md. – The UMBC men's track and field program will not need to travel far for this weekend's meet as a mere 19 miles separates the Dawgs from Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University.

Last Meet Recap (Weems Baskin Invitational):
 
Day 1:
  • Gabriel Koletski made his collegiate debut in style last weekend, making the best first impression possible with a victory in the javelin throw at 69.15m. He would earn America East Conference Field Performer of the Week honors.
  • Jafar Hussen also worked his way into the medal ceremony, grabbing the silver for his 14:56.96 time during the 5K.
  • Ibrahim Khairat double-dipped, recording sixth place at the long jump on top of setting a personal-record in the event (7.05m)
  • Lamine Fofana (10:07.10) and Mack McKeever (10:24.05) went six-seven during the 3,000m steeplechase while Seun Olajide (10.98), Toren Burr (52.10m), and Alexander Ianniello (3.90m) capped off the top-ten finishers in the 100m, hammer throw, and pole vault, respectively.
 
Day 2:
 
  • Fellow freshman phenom Iosif Papa joined Koletski in having the best showing of the day, being the only Retriever to medal on Saturday with a runner-up performance in the shot put (51.98m), a new personal-best.
  • Nicolas Alphonse secured the eighth spot in the 400m (55.80) as well as ninth with an America East leading time of 14.89 on the 100m hurdles.
  • Aiden Walker snagged eighth in the discus (46.58m), Thomas Foulkes PR'd in the 3,000m to land in ninth (8:58.26), and Daron Taylor was the final top-ten placer of the Outdoor Opener at 9:06.05 for the 3,000m also.
 
Last Time At The Towson Invitational (2022):
 
Day 1:
 
  • Burr was the Top Dawg in the hammer throw, winning the event with a distance of 55.10m.
  • Michael Arnold was a bronze medalist in the 400m hurdles in a time of 54.73.
  • Alphonse ran in the same race as Arnold, placing four spots behind his teammate as he crossed the line at 56.55 for seventh.
  • Shamar Barnes was the third and final returnee from last season's event that participated on day one, recording sixth place for his 10.67-seconds speed during the 100m dash.
 
Day 2:
 
  • Alphonse scored once again the following day, besting himself with a fourth place slot in the 110 hurdles (14.94).
  • Arnold pulled almost an exact opposite to Alphonse, coming in third the day prior while claiming seventh on day two for his showing of 49.84 in the 400m.
  • Marquis Miller captured a sixth-place finish for his mark of 21.85 regarding the 200m.
  • Three-fourths of last year's 4x100m relay quartet is back for another go as Adegboyo, Taheer Pierce, and Miller are looking to build off of the fourth place allotment from 2022 (42.92).
