BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 decision against the Delaware Blue Hens in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at UMBC Stadium.
UMBC (3-2) led 5-3 after junior attacker
Mary Ellis scored with 4:26 left in the first half but the visitors scored three consecutive goals to claim a 6-5 edge with 7:56 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Retrievers evened the contest at 6-6 as graduate student attacker
Lauren Cremen deposited a feed from sophomore attacker
Kolby Weedon with 6:46 left in the game. UMBC was able to capitalize on the woman-up opportunity as Lizzie Yurchak was carded at the 4:38 remaining.
Delaware's (4-1) Danielle Livornese scored the game-winning goal with 1:03 left in regulation following a UMBC turnover. Livornese took a feed from Morgan Gore and beat UMBC junior goalkeeper
Isabella Fontana with a shot to the lower left-corner of the net.
The visitors jumped out to the lead at the 13:42 mark of the opening quarter on a free position shot by Yurchak.
The hosts responded with two straight goals to claim a 2-1 edge with 8:39 left in the opening quarter. Senior midfielder

Claire Bockstie scored unassisted goals at even strength.
The Blue Hens evened the game on an unassisted goal by Livornese just fifty seconds into the second quarter.
UMBC went ahead again as Ellis scored her first goal of the day on an unassisted goal with 8:12 left in the opening half but Delaware evened the contest on a tally by Gore just a minute later.
The Retrievers took a two-goal lead when Bockstie found Cremen for her first marker of the game at the 6:31 mark of the second quarter. Ellis then followed with her second tally of the day off an assist by sophomore midfielder

Delaware then went on their game-changing 3-0 run to take a 6-5 advantage with 7:56 left in the contest. Megan Bozzi scored the first two goals and Jenna McHale finished the stretch.
Fontana made seven saves in goal but fell to 3-2 on the season while Mercy McCarthy (11 saves) recorded the win for the Blue Hens .

Kennedy Evans collected five grounds balls and caused five turnovers while Halczuk added five draw controls.
UMBC took 32 shots compared to 22 by the Blue Hens.
