Women's Lacrosse Outscores Robert Morris, 9-1, in Second Half and Posts 15-7 Triumph

Claire Bockstie (6g, 1a) and Megan Halczuk (2g, 1a, 10 draw controls) shine for the Retrievers.

Moon Township, Pa. – The UMBC women's lacrosse team outscored host Robert Morris, 9-1, in the second half and outlasted the Colonials, 15-7, at Joe Walton Stadium.

Senior attack Claire Bockstie led the way with a 6-goal, 7-point effort. Red-shirt sophomore linemate Kolby Weedon posted her first three-goal game of the season, while senior midfielder Megan Halczuk added two goas, one assist and ten draw controls.

UMBC improved to 4-2 on the campaign, while RMU dropped to 0-4.

The contest was knotted at 6-all at halftime. Halczuk controlled four of five draws in the third quarter, scored twice and assisted once in the period to boost the Retrievers. Bockstie's score just 62 seconds into the half gave the Retrievers just their second lead of the game. Another nine and a half minutes would elapse before UMBC scored four times in a span of 3:35 to end the period.

The Colonials snapped a scoring drought of over 20 minutes and scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to 11-7, but junior Dymin Gerow responded by netting a free position shot 1:27 later. Weedon tallied twice in a 54-second span at the midpoint of the fourth and Bockstie added the game's final goal with 2:03 remaining.

UMBC junior goalkeeper Isabella Fontana made nine saves, as the Retrievers outshot the Colonials, 44-21.

Katana Nelson got UMBC on the board first, just 1:33 into the action, but the host Colonials went on a 5-2 run to lead, 5-3, late in the first quarter.

But Bockstie converted a Gerow feed with 1:37 remaining in the quarter and the visitors were within, 5-4, after ten minutes.

Bockstie completed her 28th career hat-trick off the second quarter's opening draw to knot the score at 5-5. The scoring pace slowed as RMU goalkeeper made seven saves in the period. After the hosts regained the lead at the midpoint of the quarter, senior Jenna McDermott cashed in on a free-position shot with 6:10 remaining, which would close the scoring and the game was knotted at 6-6 at halftime.

Bockstie has moved into sixth place on UMBC's all-time scoring list with 136 goals. She is two points shy of entering the top ten in scoring, sitting on 171 points (136-35-171).

The Retrievers travel to Philadelphia next Saturday to take on Temple. The game gets underway at noon.
