Women's Swimming and Diving Hauls in Three Silvers on Day Two in Worcester

The Retrievers move into third place as Sargent, Hill and the 200 free relay squad earn second place finishes.

Worcester, Mass. – The UMBC women's swimming and diving team hauled in three silver medals on the second evening of competition at the 2023 America East Championships.

Graduate student Caroline Sargent earned silver (2:02.15) in the 200 individual medley. She nearly caught Bryant's Samantha Grenon in the final 50 yard freestyle leg, but finished .27 seconds off the pace. Senior Taylor Holderfield earned a dozen points with a seventh-place effort.

Junior Makaela Hill also took a second place medal in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 23.50. Senior Sierra Tosten tied for seventh place in the "A" final.  

UMBC capped the night by finishing in a dead head for the silver with Bryant in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Makaela Hill, Sierra Tosten, Caroline Sargent and Makayla Ludwick recorded an identical mark of 1:34.16 as the Bulldogs.

The Retrievers have moved up a slot and stand in third place through two days of competition. UNH leads with 314, followed by Bryant (226), UMBC (191.5), Vermont (181.5), Binghamton (145), Maine (125) and VMI (79).
