Dani Nicusan To Compete in LEN Short Course European Swimming Championships

The meet takes place in his home nation of Romania from Dec. 5-10

UMBC senior Dani Nicusan will competed in the LEN Short Course European Swimming Championships from Dec 5-10.

The kicker? The meet will be held in Otopeni, Romania (a town neighboring Bucharest), Nicusan's home nation.

"Representing my country at the SCM Europeans is an honor that fills me with pride and a profound sense of responsibility," said Nicusan, whose hometown of Santana de Mures is a five-hour drive from Otopeni. "It's not just about personal achievement, it's about carrying the aspirations and support of an entire nation with every stroke. The pride in wearing my country's colors amplifies the significance of each race, making the experience both humbling and exhilarating."

UMBC's record-holder in the 200 breaststroke will compete in that event, along with the 50 and 100 breaststroke races and the 100 and 200 individual medleys.

Nicusan's first event will be the 100 breaststroke on December 6.

"I am really excited because I have prepared for this face for the entirety of the (intercollegiate) season," said Nicusan.

Nicusan is experiencing an outstanding senior campaign at UMBC, and earned America East Swimmer of the Week honors on Nov. 21.

"Having the SCM Europeans in Romania is especially meaningful because it gives me the chance to compete in front of my family, allowing them to witness firsthand the culmination of my hard work and dedication. Their presence adds a layer of emotional support that makes this experience even more special."
