BACK ON TOP! Men's Swimming & Diving Claims 15th America East Championship

Lexington, Va. -- The UMBC Men's Swimming & Diving team completed a dominating four days by winning the America East Swimming & Diving Championship on Saturday night at VMI.

The title is Retrievers 15th in 20 seasons of America East competition, and first since 2023. The two year drought was UMBC's longest without a title since joining the Conference in 2004.

Braden Weise won two more gold medals and was named the meet's Most Outstanding Rookie, while the coaching staff led by Matt Donovan was named the Most Outstanding Coaching Staff.

Sean Neils picked up two more medals of his own and earned the America East Elite 18 Award given to the Student-Athlete competing in the Championships with the highest GPA. Neils has a 4.0 GPA and is a financial economics major.

The Retrievers essentially clinched the title by taking the top four spots in the 100 free, as Weise took gold in a school and meet record time of 43.58. Neils took silver in 43.87, Matthew So earned bronze in 44.05 and Axel Mori finished fourth in 44.17.

Those same four teamed up in the 400 free relay to set the UMBC/America East/Meet record in 2:55.53.

The Retrievers finished with 805.5, 57.5 points ahead of two-time defending champions Binghamton.
