Women’s Lacrosse Heads North for Saturday Matchup at Vermont

UMBC women’s lacrosse will look to get back in the win column against the Catamounts on Saturday afternoon.

BALTIMORE– UMBC women's lacrosse will look to get back in the win column against the Catamounts on Saturday afternoon. The Retrievers are coming off a 20-14 loss to Binghamton on Wednesday at UMBC Stadium. In the game, Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) scored her 100th career goal.

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • UMBC comes into the contest at 7-5, 1-1 AE after suffering a 20-14 loss to Binghamton on Wednesday afternoon. In the contest, Claire Bockstie recorded her 100th career goal and extended her point streak to 30 games. 
  • Bockstie leads the Retrievers with 49 goals and 13 assists for 62 points. Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) is also at the 40 goal mark, adding eight assists. 
  • Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) leads the team with 75 draw controls, needing four to reach 200 for her career and 30 to break the season record.
  • Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) has played a majority of the time in net making 88 saves (.481 saves pct), and giving up 95 goals (12.63 GAA). 

Scouting the Catamounts:
  • Vermont enters the contest on a two-game losing streak and are 8-3, 1-2 AE on the year. Most recently, the Catamounts fell 12-10 against UAlbany last Saturday. Vermont had a lead going into the fourth, but the Great Danes outscored the Catamounts 4-0 in the fourth.
  • Ava Vasile leads the team with 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points. She has collected 17 ground balls and 27 draw controls. Taylor Mullen has scored 19 goals and a team-best 11 assists for 30 points. 
  • Sophie McLaughlin has seen most of the time in net making 73 saves (.424 saves pct) and allowing 99 goals (10.02 GAA).

All-Time Series:
  • This will be the 18th meeting all-time between the two schools with UMBC leading the series 11-6. UMBC has won the last four meetings after losing two straight in 2015 and 2016.
  • The Retrievers are 5-4 all-time in games played in Burlington.

Models of Consistency:
  • Claire Bockstie has recorded a point in every game since she stepped foot on campus in 2020, a streak that spans 30 games. She has scored at least one goal in 29 of those 30 games, with that streak being snapped against Johns Hopkins this year.
  • Similarly, Dymin Gerow is currently on a 12-game point streak and has recorded a point in 19 of her 21 career games.

Milestone Watch:
  • Dymin Gerow and Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) are approaching 100 career points with Gerow needing 20 and Docal needing 29.
  • Megan Halczuk is just four draw controls away from 200 for her career and is 30 away from setting the single season record that she set in 2021.

Among the Best:
  • The Retrievers are right up there among the nation's best in several statistical categories. The Retrievers are tenth in saves percentage and are 25th in ground balls per game.
  • UMBC is 23rd in the nation in scoring offense.
  • Bockstie is third in shots on goal per game and second in shots per game. Bockstie is also seventh in the country in goals per game. Gerow is also ranked third in free position goals per game.

  • UMBC will return home next Saturday, April 16 for a matchup with UAlbany.
