Remy Hurls Gem in 10-3 Win Against Stony Brook

UMBC baseball picked up a big 10-3 win against the Seawolves on Saturday getting a big offensive output and solid start from Nick Remy (Atkinson, N.H.). Remy threw 6.1 innings, giving up just one run in the win.

BALTIMORE– UMBC baseball picked up a big 10-3 win against the Seawolves on Saturday getting a big offensive output and solid start from Nick Remy (Atkinson, N.H.). Remy threw 6.1 innings, giving up just one run in the win.

UMBC improves to 16-21, 7-10 AE while the Seawolves fall to 16-20, 11-7 AE on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both starting pitchers were strong early on with there being just one hit between the two teams over the first three innings. 
  • UMBC broke through in the fourth with Luke  Trythall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) bounced a single over the second baseman's head to plate Christian Easley (Collinsville, Va.) and give UMBC a 1-0 lead.
  • The Retrievers added to the lead in the sixth, exploding for five runs. Luke Johnson (Lewes, Del.) singled in a pair, Logan Doran (Greenville, S.C.) flew out and scored a run, and Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) drove in two on a single to make it 6-0.
  • After the Seawolves got a run in the seventh, Tony Krueger (Appleton, Wisc.) blasted a two-run home run to right to push UMBC back in front 8-1.
  • UMBC added to their lead in the eighth with a Justin Taylor (Reston, Va.) two-run home run, as the Retrievers defeated Stony Brook, 10-3 on Saturday.

NOTABLE:
  • Nick Remy threw a gem going 6.1 innings, giving up one run and scattering three hits with six strikeouts. 
  • Taylor and Matt Ryan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) each had three hits with Ryan ending up a home run shy of a cycle. 

The Retrievers and Seawolves will conclude their series on Sunday, April 24 with first pitch at 1 p.m.
