UMBC Women’s Lacrosse Returns Home to Battle Conference Leader UAlbany on Saturday

UMBC women’s lacrosse will look to snap a two-game losing streak against the America East leading Great Danes on Saturday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.

BALTIMORE– UMBC women's lacrosse will look to snap a two-game losing streak against the America East leading Great Danes on Saturday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park. UMBC is coming off a 16-8 loss at Vermont last Saturday that saw Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) record her 200th career draw control.

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • The Retrievers return home at 7-6, 1-2 AE on a two-game losing streak. Most recently, the Retriever fell 16-8 last Saturday at Vermont. In the contest, Megan Halczuk recorded her 200th career draw control.
  • Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) leads the Retrievers with 51 goals and 14 assists for 65 points. Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) and Kolby Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) are also over 30 goals at 40 and 38 respectively. 
  • Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) leads the team in net making 93 saves (.463 saves pct) while allowing 13.08 goals per game.

Scouting the Great Danes:
  • UAlbany comes to Baltimore in first place in the conference at 5-6, 3-0 AE on the year. Last time out the Great Danes defeated New Hampshire 20-14 in Durham. UAlbany is 1-4 at home this year but are 4-2 on the road.
  • Katie Pascale and Sarah Falk lead the team with 32 goals each. Pascale has dished out 27 assists for 59 points with 58 draw controls.
  • In net, Aislinn Sweeney has seen the most time in net sporting a 4-4 record. Katherine Chiarella has played the last two games in net and is giving up 13.93 goals per game with 50 saves (.420 saves pct.).

All-Time Series:
  • This will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the two schools with the Great Danes leading the series 16-6 including wins in the last ten contests.
  • The last UMBC win in the series came in 2012 in Baltimore. Four of the six Retriever wins have been in Baltimore.

Milestone Watch:
  • Dymin Gerow and Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) are approaching 100 career points with Gerow needing 20 and Docal needing 28.
  • Megan Halczuk is 22 draw controls away from breaking her single season mark of 104 set last year. She is also just 65 away from becoming the all-time leader.
  • Claire Bockstie is 12 goals away from breaking the single-season record.

Up Next:
  • The Retrievers will have their final road contest of the season next Saturday, April 23 when they head to #5 Stony Brook.
  • Opening draw with the Seawolves is slated for 6 p.m. ESPN+.
