Women’s Lacrosse Suffers 14-11 Setback Against No. 18 Temple on Friday

UMBC women’s lacrosse (3-2) battled tough with nationally ranked Temple (5-1) on Friday, taking a 9-3 lead into halftime. However the Owls outscored the Retrievers 11-2 in the second half to defeat UMBC 14-11 on Friday.

BALTIMORE– UMBC women's lacrosse (3-2) battled tough with nationally ranked Temple (5-1) on Friday, taking a 9-3 lead into halftime. However the Owls outscored the Retrievers 11-2 in the second half to defeat UMBC 14-11 on Friday.

Sophomore Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) led the Retrievers with five goals, adding one assist. Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) added four goals in the loss. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Retrievers stormed out of the gates in the first quarter, taking a 3-0 lead and holding the Owls off the scoreboard through the first 13-plus minutes. 
  • Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) got the scoring started off a Gerow feed with 7:25 left in the first. Gerow then found the back of the net, followed by a Bockstie goal to make it 3-0.
  • Temple would score the next two goals before Bockstie netted her second to make it 5-3.
  • UMBC then ripped off a four goal run to end the half to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
  • The Owls would respond in the second half, scoring four straight to cut the lead to 9-7 before Gerow ended the run with her fourth of the game.
  • However, Temple would outscore UMBC 7-1 the rest of the way to knock off UMBC 14-11.

NOTABLE:
  • Gerow led the charge with five goals, adding one assist. Bockstie added four goals and an assist. 
  • Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) made 13 saves in the loss.

UMBC will conclude their home stand against local-rival Towson on Wednesday, March 9. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
