The UMBC baseball team opens America East Conference play with a three-game series versus the UAlbany Great Danes. The two squads will play three nine-inning contest on Friday (3:00 p.m.), Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) at Alumni Field.
UMBC Athletics is participating in a year-long initiative to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX. As part of the #RetrievHERS celebration, Retriever Baseball is recognizing an impactful woman on their program.
Cindy Kubiet served as UMBC's Head Athletic Trainer and then Director of Sports Medicine Services from 1978-2017 and the vast majority of those years were spent in the third base dugout with Retriever baseball. She was awarded the Board of Regents' University System of Maryland Staff Award for her outstanding service to students in an academic or residential environment and was inducted in the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame.

- After a doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Mary's on March 11, UMBC (7-9) dropped decisions at GW (2-0) and to UMass (10-5) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

- Graduate student second baseman Myles Nicholson (Hagerstown, Md.) banged out two more hits vs. UMass and is ranked amongst the top 25 hitters in the nation with an average of .467. He has 14 stolen bases and an OPS of 1.239. He has reached base in all 16 games, has hits in 15 of 16 and has recorded 10 multiple hit games. He is 10-of-18 at the dish in his last four games.

- Junior center fielder Justin Taylor (Reston, Va.) owns a five-game hitting streak and is batting .400 in that span.

- Sophomore Luke Johnson (Lewes, Del.) leads the pitching staff with a 3.15 ERA with a team-high 20 innings pitched. He has fanned 24 batters in 20 innings.

A Look At The Great Danes Â

- UAlbany is 9-5 on the campaign and has won nine of its last 11 games. The Great Danes opened at No. 16 Georgia and lost tight 4-2 and 7-6 decisions in the first two contests versus the Bulldogs.

- The Great Danes have swept a four-game set at Eastern Shore and a three-game set versus Iona. They split a pair of games last weekend at Coppin State and have yet to play in Albany in 2022.

- Senior infielder Brad Malm leads the nation in home runs per game, clouting ten round-trippers in 64 plate appearances. He hit two long balls at Georgia and is currently batting .453 on the campaign. UAlbany hits .298 as a team has 57 extra-base hits in 14 games.

- Anthony Germinerio has been dominant on the mound, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.13 earned run average in 24 innings of work.

- The Retrievers and Great Danes split a four-game series at UAlbany in 2021. UMBC lost the first twin-bill, but won the second. Luke Johnson threw 6.1 no-hit innings in a 7-4 UMBC win, then hit a two-run single to spark a UMBC comeback in an 11-6 victory in the nightcap. Drew Roberts drove in four runs in the second game.

UAlbany leads the all-time series, 40-27. The teams split a pair in Baltimore during the Great Danes' last visit in 2018.
