ANNAPOLIS - UMBC baseball suffered another walk-off loss, this time an 11-10 defeat at Navy on Saturday. The Midshipmen drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat the Retrievers.

The Retrievers took the lead from Navy after a strong five run rally in the fourth inning, putting them in front, 5-4. Navy swiftly responded with a five run rally of their own to take a 9-5 lead.

The back and forth would continue into the ninth inning, with the Retrievers scoring two runs to go ahead 10-9, but Navy would tie the game at the end of the ninth inning.

In his second outing with the Retrievers, Myles Nicholson (Hagerstown, Md.) drove in three runs with two hits and two stolen bases.

Justin Taylor (Reston, Va.) and Tony Krueger (Appleton, Wi.) drove in a pair of runs each in the loss.

How It Happened
  • Taylor would open up the top of the fourth inning with a double down the right field line, followed shortly after by Luke Trythall (Poolesville, Md.) and Luke Johnson (Lewes, Del.) both getting hit by a pitch.
  • Taylor was able to score off a single by Christian Easley (Collinsville, Va.), before a double from Krueger to right center sent Johnson and Trythall home. Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) would then hit a single to third base, advancing Krueger to third and allowing Easley to score. Nicholson would then hit a single, sending Krueger home, and putting the Retrievers up over Navy, 5-4.
  • Navy would answer back with a five run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting them up 9-5.
  • The Retrievers would slowly work their way back with Easley scoring off a triple from Nolan Charlton (Atlantic City, N.J.), and Charlton scoring off a single from Taylor in the top of the 6th inning making the score 9-7.
  • The Retrievers then scored a run in the top of the eighth inning with Nicholson scoring off a single to center field from Taylor, making the score 9-8.
  • In the top of the ninth inning, Connor Kelly (Cumberland, Md.) would be put on first base after a hit by pitch. Roberts would also get on base after hitting a single. Both baserunners would score after Nicholson hit a single to left center, allowing the Retrievers to go up 10-9 before Navy scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
  • Extra innings would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 12th inning when the Retrievers walked the batter with bases loaded, giving Navy an 11-10 win.

The Retrievers continue their stretch of road games on Tuesday against Maryland in College Park with a 4:00 p.m. start time.
