UMBC Men's Track and Field Opens The 2022-2023 Season at the Navy Invitational

BALTIMORE - UMBC Men's Track and Field return to the Naval Academy in the Season Opener to the Indoor 2022-2023 season. In last year's season opener at Navy, Shavar Staats finished in 1st place overall in the 60m dash, running an ECAC/IC4A qualifying time of 6.89. Michael Arnold also ran an ECAC qualifying time in the 500m dash, running 1:05.18 and placing 3rd at the Invitational.

In the field events, Toren Burr also had a standout individual performance, throwing 15.66m in the weight throw to place 3rd in the event.

The Men's 1600m Relay, comprised of Marquis Miller, Taheer Pierce, Jaeden Burke, and Jayo Adegboyo, ran 3:20.06, which was .19 seconds off the qualifying time for ECAC/IC4As.

Last Indoor Season (2021): The Retrievers ended the 2021-2022 Indoor track season with a 6th place finish at the America East Indoor Championships. At the meet, Michael Arnold placed 1st in the 500m with a time of 1:04.66 and earned all-conference honors. Shavar Staats took 3rd in the 60m dash finals with a time of 6.91 while Shamar Barnes placed in the top 5 in the 200m with a time of 21.74. Rounding out top finishes for the sprints was Taheer Pierce who placed 8th in the 400m with a time of 50.21. 

From the Distance squad, Cameron Hindle took 9th in the 3,000m with a time of 8:20.95. In the mile, returners Zachary Taylor and Mack McKeever finished 10th and 11th with times of 4:19.06 and 4:20.77 behind then senior, Sam Brosh who ran 4:09.06.

Pole vaulter Ian Hoffman earned a silver medal after clearing a height of 4.65m.

UMBC's Distance Medley Relay, which featured then senior Sam Brosh and returners Lamine Fofana, Mulisa Reggasa, and Cameron Hindle, earned a bronze medal with a time of 9:58.95.

After the Navy Invitational, the Retrievers will return to the track on Saturday, January 14th for the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge at University Park, PA.
