Box Score BALTIMORE – Defending Ivy League champion Princeton used a massive 29-5 run in the first half to take command and went on to defeat the Retrievers, 94-64, before an exuberant crowd of 2,097 at "The Peake."
Graduate student guard
Colton Lawrence (Myerstown, Pa., The Hill School / Bentley) scored an early season high of 17 points to lead the Retrievers.
The Tigers hit 12-of-19 shots (63.2 percent) from behind the arc and 37-of-64 (57.8%) for the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED- FIRST HALF
· The Retrievers got off to a fast start, hitting 6-of-7 shots to start the contest and taking a 12-2 lead. But the Tigers scored the next eight points and cut the gap to 14-12 at the 13:56 mark.
· Princeton took their first lead at 17-15 and extended the run to 29-5 to forge ahead, 31-17, at the 8:12 mark. UMBC misfired on 15-of-16 shots after the hot start.
· Junior guard
Matteo Picarelli (Milan, Italy, Inter-Community School of Zurich (Switzerland)) hit a jumper in the lane with 7 seconds to play in the half to cut the deficit to 41-27.
FIRST HALF NOTES AND STATS
· The Tigers hit 8 of their first 10 shots from behind the arc and finished the half 8-of-12. Lawrence hit 2-of-3 treys to start the game, but the Retrievers missed on their final nine long-distance attempts of the half.
HOW IT HAPPENED- SECOND HALF
· Princeton built the lead to 53-32 before a Lawrence trey trimmed the deficit under 20 points at the 16:32 mark.
· Both squads sizzled from the floor early in the second half, combining to knock down 16-of-25 shots from the floor to start the period. A Lawrence turn-around jumper got the hosts to within 56-41 with 14:52 remaining, but UMBC would get no closer.
NOTES
Princeton's Matt Allocco led all scorers with 18 points.

Tra'Von Fagan (Waterloo, Iowa, Cedar Falls / Buffalo) led all rebounders with 9 and added 8 points.
