The UMBC Retrievers (9-4-2, 3-2-0 America East) will celebrate Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 28 when they host the NJIT Highlanders (4-6-4, 0-3-2 AE). The pre-game ceremony will start at approximately 6:45 p.m. and honor

RETRIEVER NOTES
- Junior forward Taylor Calheira and senior midfielder Ryan Becher tallied in the final 7:30 of the match, as UMBC Retrievers rallied for a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Vermont at Retriever Soccer Park on Saturday evening.
- The UMBC win snapped the nation's longest winning streak at 11 and clinched a spot in the America East Championships for the Retrievers. Vermont (12-2-1, 4-1-0 AE) lost for the first time since August 30 and UMBC became the first team to score against the Catamounts since September 18.
- UMBC is now unbeaten in its last five games (4-0-1).
- The Retrievers' last win over a Top 20 team occurred in 2017, when UMBC blanked No. 12 New Hampshire, 1-0.
- UMBC was ranked fifth in the Northeast Region as of Oct. 25.
- Becher earned his third consecutive America East Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor. He assisted on Calheira's game-tying goal in the 83' before converting a penalty kick with 92 seconds remaining.
- United Soccer Coaches announced its College Player of the Week awards on Oct. 19 and UMBC senior midfielder Ryan Becher earned the NCAA Division I men's top national honor.
- One of the team's tri-captains, Becher now leads the nation in points per game (2.07) and total points (31). His 11 goals are tied for the fourth-most scored in the nation as of Oct. 25.
- Becher (23 goals) became the first Retriever since Pete Caringi III (2013) to reach the 20-goal plateau. His current 2022 total of 31 points is the most since the current UMBC assistant coach amassed 32 in 2012.
- Becher now has 11 goals and nine assists on the season, while Calheira has eight goals and six helpers. The duo are 1-2 in the America East scoring race and are the highest scoring duo in the nation with 53 combined points. Eliot Goldthrop and Ryan Carmichael of Hofstra have a combined 49 points.
- UMBC is tied for fifth nationally with 36 goals scored.
- After his 2-0 shutout win at Bryant, senior goalkeeper Quantrell Jones moved into sole possession of sixth place on UMBC's all-time shutouts with 14. He just earned his 27th career victory and resides in fifth place on the all-time wins' list. Moreover, his 215 saves are seventh on the school's all-time list.
- Calheira set a school record by scoring 10 seconds into the contest vs. St. Francis Brooklyn on Sept. 2.
- Freshman defender Lasse Kelp earned his second America East Conference honor of the season on Oct. 10, earning Rookie of the Week accolades. Kelp leads all UMBC field players with 1317`minutes played.
- The America East Conference tabbed Spencer Hanks as its Offensive Player of the Week on August 29. Hanks, who missed the entire 2021 season, rehabilitating from ACL surgery, returned to the field and scored three goals and added one assist in the Retrievers' 8-2 win over Fairfield on August 26. Hanks also earned a spot on College Soccer News' Team of the Week for games ending Sept. 4.
- Head Coach Pete Caringi, Jr. enters his 32nd season at the helm of the Retrievers. The 2014 NSCAA National Coach of the Year now has posted a record of 319-202-81 in his tenure on Hilltop Circle. He is assisted by Associate Head Coach Anthony Adams, UMBC, '97, who has spent 25 previous years on the sidelines with Coach Caringi, after four years (1992-95) competing under the Retriever mentors. Pete Caringi III enters year No. 9 on the staff and volunteer assistant coach Sam DeBone is beginning his 24th year in his role.
- UMBC's next win will be the 500th in program history. In its 55th season of competition, the Retrievers are currently 499-363-121 (.569)
A GLANCE AT THE HIGHLANDERS
- The Highlanders (4-6-4, 0-3-2 America East) are battling three other squads for two remaining America East playoff slots.
- NJIT is coming off a 1-0 loss versus UAlbany on Oct. 22. Their loss was eerily similar to UMBC's home loss to the Great Danes. NJIT outshot AU, 11-9, but gave up a late goal (89') to drop the contest.
- The Highlanders have more shots (169-152) and corners (76-56) than their opponents have attempted in 2022.
- Graduate student Jose Del Valle leads the team with four goals and nine points, which includes a two-goal effort versus Hartford on Oct. 18.
- Veteran senior goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys has four shutouts on the season, including back-to-back blankings of UMass Lowell and Binghamton in scoreless draws on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- UMBC had dropped the first two America East match-ups with NJIT, until a come-from-behind, playoff-clinching 3-2 victory in Newark last Oct. 28.
- Junior Dillon Nesteruk (50') and sophomore Hayden Lim (73') each scored their first career goals in the match. Lim's scored completed the comeback from down 2-0 and propelled UMBC into the America East Tournament.
