BALTIMORE– UMBC men's basketball returns to Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena to take on America East leader Vermont on Saturday afternoon to kick off a stretch of three games in five days. The Retrievers snapped a five-game losing streak with a convincing 76-56 win at NJIT on Wednesday night. Four Retrievers hit double figures led by season-highs from
Jacob Boonyasith (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and
Dimitrije Spasojevic (Vrsac, Serbia) with 14 and 13 points respectively.

Scouting the Retrievers:
- UMBC comes into the contest at 6-7, 1-1 AE after snapping a five-game losing streak with a 76-56 win at NJIT on Wednesday. Four Retrievers reached double figures, led by Jacob Boonyasith and Dimitrije Spasojevic who had season-bests of 14 and 13 points.
- Three Retrievers are averaging double figures led by Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) at 14.4 ppg. The senior is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor with six blocks.
- Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) and L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) are also in double digits at 11.9 and 10.1 ppg. Rogers is dishing out a team-best 3.3 apg.
- Forward Yaw Obeng-Mensah (Toronto, Ontario) leads the team on the glass with 5.6 rpg.
Scouting the Catamounts:
- Vermont heads to Baltimore at 10-4, 2-0 AE on a four-game win streak after tying the America East record with 19 made three pointers in a 98-65 win against Stony Brook on Wednesday. Five different Catamounts hit double digits led by Finn Sullivan with 19 points.
- Reigning America East Player of the Year Ryan Davis is leading the team averaging 17.1 ppg. Davis is grabbing 5.8 rpg, shooting 52.2 percent from the floor.
- Ben Shungu and Isaiah Powell are also in double figures at 14.4 and 10.8 ppg. Powell is the team leader in rebounds, averaging 7.2 per game.
All-Time Series:
- This will be the 46th all-time meeting between the two schools with the Catamounts holding a 36-9 advantage. Last season the two split their season series where both games were played at UMBC.
- The series has been even in recent years, with each team winning four of the last eight matchups.
Recent Success:
- UMBC has had a string of recent successes against Vermont in recent years. Vermont had won 23 straight in the series from 2009-18 before UMBC won in the America East Championship game.
- Since that game, UMBC has won four of the last eight, including two games in Burlington.
They're Called "Free" Throws:
- UMBC ranks near the top in the country in free throw percentage. The Retrievers are 15th with a 78.1 free throw percentage.
Milestone Watch:
- Several Retrievers are approaching career milestones in 2021-22. L.J. Owens is approaching the 1,000 point mark, needing just 171 points to achieve the mark. He is also just 4 games away from 100 career games played.
- Darnell Rogers needs 45 points to reach 500 career points.
- Newcomer Ray Salnave needs just 157 points to reach 1,500 career points after scoring 1,266 during his time at Monmouth and DePaul.
