The UMBC men's soccer squad (2-2-1) renews an in-state rivalry as Mount St. Mary's (1-3-0) visits Retriever Soccer Park on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The opening kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast by the America East digital network.
The Retrievers are coming off a 3-1 loss at LIU on Saturday. Junior midfielder Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead, but the Sharks scored three times in the final 29 minutes to earn the home victory.

- Ryan Becher now has ten career goals and 26 total points (10-6-26). His four goals in four games is the most by a Retriever since Pete Caringi III tallied eight times in the first five contests in 2013. Entering play this week, he was tied for the America East lead in goals (5) and total points (11).
- Sophomore midfielder Jago Lott (Somerset, U.K.) had an assist in each of the three games he has competed in this season and is tied for the league lead (with four others) in helpers.
- Left back Julian Conze (Telgte, Germany) already has a pair of goals and two assists on the season.
- Freshman goalkeeper Jailon Gillespie (Laurel, Del.) made his first career appearance and start at LIU on Saturday. He recorded three saves in the setback.
- Lott, Conze, sophomore midfielder William Forby (Vegle, Denmark) and junior forward Justin John-Langba (Bowie, Md./Bowie) all scored their first career goals through the first three games of the season.
- Senior Jackson Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) drew the primary assist on younger brother Ryan's game-tying goal. It was the first collaboration by the Brothers Becher during their shared time together (2019) at UMBC.
- In the first three games of the season, UMBC rallied four times from a goal down to knot the score. The Retrievers have scored the game's first goal in the latest contests vs. Iona and LIU and are 1-1 in those games.
- Head Coach Pete Caringi, Jr., enters his 31st campaign at UMBC and now has a record of 304-192-77. At the start of the season, he was ranked 20th amongst active NCAA I coaches with the 302 victories and the most recent mentor to reach the 300-win level (Feb. 23, 2021 vs. GW) and 36th with a winning percentage of 59.9.
- Associate Head Coach Anthony Adams, '97, begins his 25th season, patrolling the sidelines with his former coach, while former Retriever All-American Pete Caringi III, enters his eighth.
A Glance at the Mountaineers
- Mount St. Mary's is 1-3-0, capturing their opener vs. St. Peter's, 2-1, but dropping three consecutive decisions.
- On Sept. 10, the Mount suffered a 2-1 home loss to Bucknell. Sophomore midfielder Alex Wroblewski tied the game in the 29', but the visiting Bison won it with a goal in the 82'.
- Wroblewski and sophomore midfielder Jesus Salazar each have a goal and an assist for the Mount. They have scored three goals and allowed eight in four outings.
- Senior goalkeeper Adam Siviter has played all 364 minutes to date and has a 1.98 GAA and 57.9 save percentage.

- UMBC leads the all-time series, 23-11-2.
- The last meeting occurred in 2012 and the Retrievers took a 1-0 victory.
- The Mount discontinued the program after the 2012 season and re-instated it in 2018.
- UMBC has won ten consecutive matches and are unbeaten (14-0-1) in the last 15. The Mount's last win occurred in 1997.
